JEE Main percentile calculator, without the guesswork
Your marks out of 300 with the −1 negative marking, and the exact arithmetic that turns a place among the candidates into an NTA percentile. Last checked 27 October 2026.
Step 1

Step 2
Percentile and place, both ways.
Exact for the numbers you enter. The NTA percentile is worked out separately for each session, so use the candidates in your session.
An example figure. Use the number the NTA publishes with the result.
About 10,000 candidates scored above you — a place of roughly 10,001.
Percentile 99.5001000
percentile = 100 × (candidates scoring at or below you) ÷ (candidates in the session)
Why no marks → percentile
The honest limit.
The same marks can be a different percentile in two shifts: in a harder shift fewer candidates score high, so each mark is worth more. That is why the NTA normalises by percentile within each session instead of comparing raw marks. Until the result is out, any marks-to-percentile figure is an estimate built on last year’s papers. We would rather show you the arithmetic than a number that might be wrong by thousands of places.
In our weekly contests everyone sits the same paper, so your place among them is exact — and is the best practice for reading a percentile. See contests.
Questions
About JEE Main percentiles.
How does the NTA calculate the JEE Main percentile?
For each session, percentile = 100 × (number of candidates in that session with a raw score equal to or less than yours) ÷ (total candidates in that session). It is worked out to seven decimal places to reduce ties, and the top scorer of each session gets 100.
Can a calculator convert my marks into a percentile?
Not exactly. The percentile depends on how everyone in your session scored, which is known only when the NTA declares the result. Tables of “marks vs percentile” are estimates from earlier years. This page gives your marks exactly, and the exact percentile ↔ place arithmetic once you know the number of candidates.
What is the difference between percentile and percentage?
Percentage is your marks out of 300. Percentile is the share of candidates you scored at or above. 95 percentile does not mean 95% marks; it means about 5% of the session scored more than you.
Which session counts if I sit both?
The better of your two NTA scores is used for the rank list. The rank is published after Session 2.
Is there negative marking in JEE Main 2027?
Yes. The NTA’s notice of 24 October 2026 states there will be negative marking for incorrect answers in both Section A (multiple choice) and Section B (numerical value). Each correct answer is +4 and each wrong one −1.
