How Jamia undergraduate admission works: Jamia test, CUET, NEET or JEE?

Jamia Millia Islamia uses four main routes for bachelor's courses: its own test, CUET, NEET and JEE Main. Which course uses which, for 2026-27.

Jamia Millia Islamia has no single undergraduate entrance exam. Most of its bachelor's courses use a test Jamia conducts itself, and a smaller group uses CUET, NEET, JEE Main, NATA or NCET.

Last checked on 1 November 2026. The facts below come from Jamia's University Prospectus 2026-27. The rules can change each year, so confirm your course in the new prospectus when it appears.

This table is not the whole list. Annexure I of the prospectus gives every course, its test date and its eligibility.

What do the national-test routes need?

B.Tech. You take JEE (Main), fill in Jamia's form, and enter your JEE (Main) application number. Jamia publishes its own selection list from your final JEE (Main) rank and its reservation policy. The eligibility is Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and at least 55 percent in those subjects, or a recognised engineering diploma with 55 percent.

B.D.S. Admission is by NEET rank. You choose Jamia and your reservation category in the NEET form, and there is no separate Jamia form. The prospectus also requires a bond of Rs. 3,00,000, payable if you give up the seat in breach of counselling rules, or leave in the first or second year. Read that section before you decide.

B.P.T. You take NEET and also fill in Jamia's form. You need Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English in Class 12, with at least 50 percent in aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

How do the CUET courses work?

You appear in CUET (UG) and choose the paper Jamia names for your course. For example, the 2026-27 list asks for the General Aptitude Test (501) for several language courses, Hindi (102) for B.A. Hindi and Urdu (113) for B.A. Urdu. After the exam, you apply separately on Jamia's portal. Admission is by your CUET normalised score and Jamia's admission policy.

Taking CUET does not put you in Jamia's list by itself. You must file the Jamia form too. The National Testing Agency says admission is handled by each university.

How does Jamia's own test work?

In 2026-27, the test ran from 26 April 2026 onwards, with admit cards from 17 April 2026. Some sample dates:

Course2026 test date
B.A. (Hons) English26 April 2026
B.A. (Hons) History, B.A. (Hons) Economics2 June 2026
B.Com. (Hons), B.B.A.3 June 2026
B.A. LL.B. (Hons)4 June 2026, 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM

Many tests are held only at New Delhi. Courses marked Multi City were offered at 11 centres in 2026-27: Delhi, Lucknow, Guwahati, Patna, Kolkata, Srinagar, Calicut, Bhopal, Jaipur, Dehradun and Kishanganj. Patna and Kishanganj are in Bihar. Syllabi are on Jamia's site.

Some courses add an interview or group discussion after the test. The prospectus says which.

When did forms open, and how much did they cost?

Form2026 window

JEE Main, NATA, CUET, NEET and NCET coursesFrom 20 February 2026 until 10 days after the test agency's result

The application fee was Rs. 1,000 for faculties such as Law, Engineering, Dentistry, Architecture, Education and Management Studies, and Rs. 700 for most others. The fee is not refunded.

Is there reservation?

Yes. Jamia earmarks 30 percent of seats in each programme for Muslim applicants, 10 percent for Muslim women and 10 percent for Muslim OBC and ST applicants. It reserves 5 percent for persons with disabilities. Internal students, Kashmiri migrants, sports candidates and others have their own provisions in the prospectus. You may claim only one reserved category.

Frequently asked questions

Can I study law at Jamia with CLAT?

Not in 2026-27. B.A. LL.B. (Hons) used Jamia's own test. You needed at least 50 percent in Class 12, in any stream.

Is CUET compulsory for every Jamia course?

No. It applied to a limited list, printed near the end of the prospectus. Most bachelor's courses used Jamia's own test in 2026-27.

Which year's exam should I take?

Each prospectus names the exam for that session. A CUET score is valid only for the year it was held, so you must sit the test for your own admission year.

For the NEET and JEE routes above, see our pages on [NEET](/neet) and [JEE Main](/jee-main). Nikaalle does not prepare students for Jamia's own test or for CUET.
