Jamia Class 11 entrance test: eligibility, pattern and how seats are filled

How Class 11 admission works at Jamia Millia Islamia schools: marks you need, the test pattern for Science, Arts and Commerce, and the 2026 dates as a guide.

Jamia Millia Islamia fills Class 11 seats for outside students through one common written test for its three senior secondary schools. Merit depends on your marks in that test, and you need at least 33 percent to be eligible.

Last checked on 1 November 2026. The facts below come from the Jamia Schools Prospectus for 2026-27. The 2027-28 prospectus was not out when we checked, so treat every date here as last year's date and confirm the rest in the new prospectus.

Which schools and streams does the test cover?

The test is common to Jamia Senior Secondary School, Syed Abid Husain Senior Secondary School (self-financed) and Jamia Girls Senior Secondary School (self-financed, evening shift). All three teach Science, Arts and Commerce.

The prospectus lists these expected seats for external candidates in 2026-27, added across the three schools. It also says the number of seats may change.

You fill in one form and show your school preference. The school you get depends on your merit and that preference.

What marks do you need in Class 10?

Science60%At least 40% in every subject, 60% in Science, 40% in English
Commerce50%At least 33% in every subject, 40% in English

Two more rules matter. To take Mathematics in the Science stream, you need at least 60 percent in Standard Mathematics in Class 10. To take Applied Mathematics in Commerce or Arts, you need at least 60 percent in Basic or Standard Mathematics.

If your Class 10 result is not out when the form closes, you may still apply. You must show proof of passing by the last date of admission.

What is the test pattern?

All three papers have 100 multiple-choice questions of one mark each. The test lasts two hours, there is no negative marking, and calculators are not allowed. The paper comes in English, Hindi and Urdu. The syllabus follows the CBSE Class 10 syllabus.

How much does it cost and how do you apply?

The application fee in 2026-27 was Rs. 500, paid online. It is not refunded. There is no printed form. You apply only at admission.jmi.ac.in.

School fees are separate from this application fee. The prospectus lists them in one table for Jamia Senior Secondary School and another for the two self-financed schools.

Is there any reservation?

Yes. The prospectus earmarks 30 percent of seats for Muslim applicants, 10 percent for Muslim women, 10 percent for Muslim OBC and Muslim ST applicants, and 5 percent for persons with disabilities. Candidates from Jammu and Kashmir, Kashmiri migrants and sports candidates have separate provisions. You may choose only one category in the form.

Frequently asked questions

Can a student from Bihar Board apply?

Yes, if the board is recognised. The prospectus asks for a Class 10 pass from a recognised board. Percentages are worked out the way CBSE does it, so check how your marks count.

Do Jamia's own Class 10 students take this test?

Internal students are admitted to Class 11 on combined merit among themselves, using their qualifying exam marks. But some students count as external, including those who passed Class 10 from Jamia as private candidates, or from the two self-financed schools when applying to Jamia Senior Secondary School.

Is a hostel guaranteed?

No. The prospectus says hostel places are limited and there is no guarantee.

What if I took a gap after Class 10?

A gap of more than one year needs a certificate or affidavit. The prospectus says a gap of more than three years will not be allowed.
