AMU Class 11 entrance test: eligibility, pattern, seats and centres

How Class 11 admission works at Aligarh Muslim University schools: the 45 percent rule, age limit, test pattern, seats by school and the 2026 dates as a guide.

Aligarh Muslim University admits students to Class 11 through its own admission test for the Senior Secondary School Certificate. You need at least 45 percent in Class 10, you must be 19 or younger on 1 July of the admission year, and you must score at least 20 percent in the test.

Last checked on 1 November 2026. The facts below come from AMU's Guide to Admissions 2026-27, published by the Controller of Examinations. The 2027-28 guide was not out when we checked, so treat every date here as last year's date and confirm the rest in the new guide.

What marks do you need in Class 10?

The rule is different for Science.

StreamRequirement
ScienceNot less than 45% in aggregate of English, Science (including Life Sciences) and Mathematics taken together, and a pass in each of the three
CommerceNot less than 45% in aggregate, and a pass in English
HumanitiesNot less than 45% in aggregate, and a pass in English

For Commerce and Humanities, if you took more than five subjects, AMU counts your best five.

What is the test pattern?

Each paper has 100 objective questions for 100 marks, and the test lasts two hours. The paper is available in English, Hindi and Urdu. Commerce and Humanities share one combined test. The Science test is also the test for Diploma in Engineering.

SectionScience streamCommerce and Humanities
Science (Physics, Chemistry, Life Science)50
Social Studies (Civics, Economics, History, Geography)60

Indo-Islamic Culture1010

There is negative marking. A wrong answer takes away 25 percent of the marks for that question, so 0.25 of a mark here. Marking two answers to one question counts as wrong. Note the 10 marks on Indo-Islamic Culture. It is easy to miss when you plan your revision.

How many seats are there, school by school?

These are the intakes printed in the 2026-27 guide.

The money is not refunded and is not carried forward to a later year. You apply online only, at amucontrollerexams.com. Admit cards are given online and are not posted.

What subjects will you study after admission?

Science students take English Core, Physics, Chemistry, one of Mathematics, Biology or Home Science (girls only), and one more option. Commerce students take English Core, Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics, plus one option. A school may not offer every subject, because of limits on staff or space. If you want both Mathematics and Biology, ask at counselling whether your school can give you that.

Frequently asked questions

Who counts as an internal student?

The guide says an internal candidate has passed the qualifying exam from AMU as a regular student, not earlier than three academic years before admission. Private and distance candidates are not internal. Everyone else is external.

Can a madrasa student apply?

The guide lists madaris and their recognised certificates in a separate table, and gives candidates from a recognised madrasa up to three years of relaxation in the maximum age. Check your certificate against that table before you pay.

Can I get rechecking if my marks are low?

No. The guide says requests for re-evaluation or re-totalling are not accepted. You can challenge the answer key online within 48 hours of its display, for Rs. 100 per answer, and the fee is not refunded.
